GOG.com (http://www.gog.com), the place to be for DRM-free classic PC games, concludes its first-anniversary-month celebrations with the addition of a classic RPG series from attic. Realms of Arkania, a PC game trilogy based on a famous and successful German pen-and-paper RPG, arrives at GOG.com compatible with modern operating systems and DRM-free. A bundle including the first two parts of the series, Blade of Destiny and Star Trail, is now available for a mere $5.99.

Realms of Arkania is a great example of the classic RPG, in which the player creates a party of six characters who travel through a 3D world full of towns, dungeons, secrets and enemies. The series was based on Germany's most popular pen-and-paper RPG, The Dark Eye, and takes place in the fantasy universe of Aventurien. As the leader of a group of heroes, it's up to the player to maintain peace in the land. The game features an extensive and detailed statistics system that defines every character controlled by the player. The series' appeal was very well described in a review by UK's The One magazine: "it'll no doubt cause RPG addicts to perform cartwheels." Star Trail, the second installment, was named best RPG of the year in the United States by three independent magazines. The different parts of the Arkania trilogy have garnered more than 70 awards internationally.

"Thanks to the collaboration between GOG and attic, we are proud to present XP and Vista compatible versions of the Realms of Arkania series in English for the first time, exclusively at GOG.com," said Jochen Hamma, Managing Director of attic Entertainment Software GmbH. "It's been a pleasure working with GOG.com as a partner, as the company is run by dedicated gamers and supports the RPG genre extensively."

"If we think about the genres that made PC games so popular, we have to point to RPGs as one of the most influential, and Realms of Arkania is one great RPG series," said Adam Oldakowski, Managing Director of GOG.com. "GOG.com is a gathering place for a lot of classic RPG fans, so the addition of the Realms of Arkania trilogy to our catalogue should be great news for our users."

Realms of Arkania 1+2 is already available for download at GOG.com for $5.99, DRM-free and compatible with Windows XP and Vista. The third part of the series will be available for purchase in the coming weeks.

Shattered Horizon
November 18, 2009
While offering no tutorial whatsoever in a relatively new genre of FPS, it appears Shattered Horizon has the right stuff for many shooter fans, with a price per value being one of the most important aspects here. Mind though you will need to see for yourself if this game is for you or if you dislike the 3D environment free movement.  [...]

Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition
November 17, 2009
Some ports are good, some ports are bad, and some ports are never to be made. I decide to include the PC edition of 'The Force Unleashed' in the latest category simply because it inherits all the bad aspects of the platform edition of the game and it also brings new bugs and other technical problems which are hard to be ignored, even by the most casual gamer.  [...]

League of Legends
November 16, 2009
Every now and then somebody comes up with a brilliant idea that shakes the very foundations of the gaming industry, despite having a low budget or an undersized developing team. DotA was such a concept and the result is a game mode that rivals Warcraft 3 in terms of popularity, establishing itself as a landmark in the RTS genre. Featuring the same solid gameplay without the limitations of the Warcraft engine, League of Legends is undeniably a huge leap forward and probably another massive success.  [...]

Gratuitous Space Battles
October 20, 2009
I've only had the opportunity of testing a pre-release beta version of Cliff "Cliffski" Harris' Gratuitous Space Battles, but I can tell you I've had great fun with it. The game is developed for braniacs and lets your imagination thrive, even if it's a top-down, 2D strategy. Looking forward to check out multiplayer and the final version.  [...]

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm
September 8, 2009
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm promises to be one of the turning points for the Warcraft universe, not only advancing the story and lore, but also offering a new and more beginner friendly experience to new players who are just starting up on the game. That said, it is obvious veteran players haven't been forgotten, and as I've seen from this year's Blizzcon, everyone will be happy to know development work looks quite advanced, and we can probably expect this pack to arrive probably sooner than later.  [...]

Champions Online
August 27, 2009
Champions Online is not the only MMO to be released this year, but it is definitely one of the most anticipated ones, following the considerable success of its predecessor: City of Heroes. This latest release from Cryptic Studios will face a fierce competition, but those who are willing to trade a fantasy universe with a more gritty one, without forsaking a quality MMO may find a great alternative in it.  [...]
