NCsoft's Aion Soars as Year's Biggest MMO Launch - News

Print NCsoft today released, Aion, its highly anticipated massively multiplayer online role-playing game in retailers across Europe. The entertainment phenomenon that has taken Asia by storm and has wowed hundreds of thousands of beta testers in Europe and North America has finally arrived.
Having sold out of its Limited Collector's Edition version and tallying more pre-orders than any other MMO game this year, Aion's release marks the biggest MMO launch of the year and is already being touted as one of the must-have games for the coming Christmas period. Aionalso released in North America, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore this week.
In Aion, gamers explore a celestial world of breath-taking beauty and epic adventure. Players create either winged Elyos or Asmodian avatars, sworn enemy races that discover a common foe: the twisted and depraved Balaur. Aion is among the biggest MMO games in the East and has wowed millions of gamers with its breathtaking graphics, innovative gameplay and engrossing story.
"We're extremely excited to finally deliver the game to Western audiences and believe they will enjoy Aion as much as Eastern players have," said Jaeho Lee, CEO NCsoft West. "The effort we put into Westernising Aion is unprecedented in our industry. Players will experience a completely rewritten storyline spanning more than two-million words, along with a variety of enhancements specifically for Western audiences."
Consumer excitement for Aion has been steadily building in the recent months leading up to the game's launch. Aion's preorder sales have exceeded expectations, and the game has remained ranked among the top games on both Steam and Direct to Drive throughout the preorder period. Having sold nearly 450,000 copies before launch, Aion has established the benchmark as the biggest MMO release of the year. Sins of a Solar Empire
The stellar "Sins of a Solar Empire" hits our PCs with a unique interesting new combination of game genres and a few cool ideas that should draw the attention of quite a few strategy fans. The newcomer Ironclad Games managed the impossible and created a competitive title indeed. But aside from all the prays and high marks this game received overall, its approach on RTS and the mix of elements it brings, one can find some things that will bother a few players and that will eventually influence the grades of this review. Ok, let's take it from the top.

I thought a bit about how to start this. While saying that Silent Hunter IV is the best submarine simulator out there is true, it doesn't mean much, especially for new players. Saying it is one of the best simulator games out there is again accurate, but again, a bit of an understatement. Why? Well because... despite the high complexity and realism involved, Ubisoft Romania managed to develop a game that is appealing to the beginners as well, in a certain degree.

GC: Disciples 3: Renaissance
We were able to take part in 2 battles and what we saw pleased us. The transition to the 3D helped the game and gave it a better view on the battlefield. You can move the camera and this way you get a better look at the action. The units are amazing and their animations are clean and good looking. Same goes for spells and effects: you will love what you see.

So here I am back on the road with a BMW. This time in Race 07 demo. The only racing-simulation game that really impressed me at GC. But only with the help of the Steam client which probably will become the "god" of online distribution! Anyway a big minus for this decision of playing the game only through Steam.

| Aion October 29, 2009 NCsoft attempts to combine the more dynamic and action
driven Western market MMORPG elements with the more artistic, visually
appealing and progression oriented Oriental elements in Aion: The Tower of
Eternity. Early numbers tell us many people all over the world enjoy this
highly polished MMO, but there are some that find it unappealing just because
some of those elements were used. And unfortunately, I find myself amongst
them.
