Besides the Americans, you will be able to play from a Japanese point of view. They will start by making sure that Pearl Harbor will remain only a pile of smoking metal and over the time counter attacking the American plans to dominate Southern Pacific. You will face the same kind of missions as the Americans but you will have different planes to control.
A6M1 Zero as fighter, B5N1 KATE to torpedo the enemy ships or J1N1 GEKKO to bombard the enemy units are at your disposal to create havoc and exterminate the boldly Americans.

Pieces of adrenaline
As I mentioned before, each fight will be intense and short, giving the game a fast paced gameplay. This will help as you will finish the game quickly but you can always start the campaign and choose to finish the missions using different airplanes. You can always use a fighter in a mission instead of a torpedo plane with which you have completed the mission before, if the mission allows you, of course.
Each plane can shoot in two modes. The primary gun is the machinegun and the second is the special weapon. The fighters use fire and forget missiles, used mostly in close combat situations; the torpedoes drop torpedoes (take into consideration that the enemy units are not stationary) and bombs for dive bombers airplanes.
If you play as a Rambo style with rushing into enemy units, you will get yourself killed pretty quickly, depending of course on what difficulty you are playing. So try to evade when necessary and take care of your allied planes as this will ensure a longer survival.

As you take out enemies, you will be given points, points that will translate in carrier advancement and an increased number of allied planes helping you in missions.
All in all, Attack on Pearl Harbor is an interesting game, focused on intense action, with quick missions but full of adrenaline and does not compare with the most advanced flight combat simulators regarding the amount of details and length of campaign.
