Visually, Caesar IV is there to do its job. There are some good-looking lighting and weather effects, as well as reflective water, though dynamic shadows can cripple the overall performance. Disabling shadows means the graphics lose a bit of their beauty, but the game doesn't slows whenever you shift the camera angle. Seen from the distance, you can see that this is nothing but a virtual city but in a way you love it because it's your work. You can view your citizens, watch them walking down the street because you can zoom in very much looking at every detail of the city.

Regarding the audio part, Caesar has a music which blends with the game, and you can't feel it as being some out of order as you are playing hour after hour. There are also verbal feedbacks to how you're doing whenever you click on a citizen, allowing you to know what they are thinking about the city and its condition. You will find out if they are lacking food, entertainment or religion.


Hardware: 87

As its predecessor, Caesar IV will be playable on most mid-level computers as it has no special demands for hardware. But if you really want the game to give you everything then you will need a more powerful machine because only then you will witness the grandeur of the Roman cities.

If you are patient enough to try a mission several times until you finally come up with a winning solution, then Caesar IV will be a good game, allowing you to feel like a real governor and feeling the true Roman flavor. It has some minor drawbacks, but for the fans, and not only for them, Caesar will probably be the city simulation game of this year.
