Fracture - Game Review (XB360)

Print Have you gotten tired of being caught in the open, without any cover and seeing your screen turn red as you character is soaking up bullets? Aren`t you sick of finding doors that can`t be opened, and instead you have to go around them? Don`t you just hate it when bridges get blow up right in front of you, forcing you to go another way? If you`ve answered "yes" to any of these questions, then give "Fracture" a try, for alternate solutions to these problems.
Alternate solution to problem number 1: Raise or lower the ground as you see fit with your handy Entrencher gun (but only if you`re standing on dirt, since concrete doesn`t seem to want to help you). Use this to create earth shields that will give you time to recharge your shields and reload your weapon.
Alternate solution to problem number 2: Why go around them, when you can go under them? Lower the terrain and waltz under the door (be sure to give it a good kick in the process, to show it who`s boss).
And finally, alternate solution to problem number 3: If the bridge is blown up, but not disintegrated, there is a way of fixing it. This usually involves creating several lava spikes to raise the bridge to an acceptable level, and maintain it there.
Does this sound like fun? Do you think this makes the levels too easy? Think again, because terrain deformation has it`s good and bad parts, but let`s not get ahead of ourselves.
Seeing as the United States has been divided in two, by rising water levels (who said global warming isn`t an issue?), two sides have emerged: The Atlantic and The Pacific. Each side has its own agenda, with the Atlantic focusing more on technological achievements to advance humanity, while the Pacific is toying with the human gene in order to evolve. Gene modification is soon outlawed by the President, and was shortly ensues.
The story is completely unremarkable, and has you playing as Jet Brody, one of the Atlantic Alliance Armed Forces, member of the task party sent to deal with the leader of the Pacificans, General Nathan Sheridan. Of course this isn`t as easy as it seems, and he`s not prepared to go down without a fight, so there`s no other way but the hard way to solve the problem.
You`re by no means Superman, and you have no special powers,
so you might be wondering how one man can fight an entire army. Well, it`s the
suit of course
. The suit turns you into a mini-regenerating-monster. Apart
from the shield regeneration thing that seems to be more and more common, the
suit also provides you with increased melee damage, some sort of double jump,
by using the Entrencher as well, and other bonuses. These will be received from
headquarters (via satellite download), as the game progresses, but I`m having
problems understanding why they couldn`t just load me up with all the upgrades
and then watch from above as I tear the entire Pacifican army apart.
Leaving the story (a.k.a. Reason for Slaughter) aside, let`s move on to the oh-so-hyped terrain deformation feature. This is probably the most important feature that differentiates Fracture from other third person shooters on the Xbox 360. Unfortunately, it gets old fast, especially since you can`t really use it in combat, where it becomes more of a nuisance. It is however used in most puzzles available in the game, but usually you are shown exactly where to raise the terrain and where to lower it. Hey, we`re not idiots, let us think for ourselves. This seems to be less of an issue as the campaign progresses, but your good old mentor will keep buzzing in to let you know what to do, even before you see the challenge.

Although it does not include all the patch notes, I thought I'd add this now so you get the general idea of what will change in the next major World of Warcraft Patch 2.4.0.

Welcome back, LEGION. Indeed, Joe Kucan is back, portraying the legendary self-proclaimed prophet Kane, through 20 years of Command and Conquer history: past, present and future. The 13 missions spread story explains what happened to the Brotherhood of Nod right after the Second Tiberium War, and fill the history gap left by the original Command and Conquer 3. And then of course some more, the action takes us a bit more into the future, showing just a sneak peak of the shape of things to come.

The stellar "Sins of a Solar Empire" hits our PCs with a unique interesting new combination of game genres and a few cool ideas that should draw the attention of quite a few strategy fans. The newcomer Ironclad Games managed the impossible and created a competitive title indeed. But aside from all the prays and high marks this game received overall, its approach on RTS and the mix of elements it brings, one can find some things that will bother a few players and that will eventually influence the grades of this review. Ok, let's take it from the top.
Sherlock Holmes, the worlds` greatest detective, created by Arthur Conan Doyle is about to face his biggest challenge so far: Arsene Lupin, the worlds` greatest thief, created by Maurice Leblanc. Who is going to win this battle of wits? Who is going to be victorious, and, most importantly, who would you like to see as the winner?
I thought a bit about how to start this. While saying that Silent Hunter IV is the best submarine simulator out there is true, it doesn't mean much, especially for new players. Saying it is one of the best simulator games out there is again accurate, but again, a bit of an understatement. Why? Well because... despite the high complexity and realism involved, Ubisoft Romania managed to develop a game that is appealing to the beginners as well, in a certain degree.
Lineage II had it share of success. At the time the game was released, it was one of the most beautiful MMOG on the market. To take its place as the most beautiful MMOG, the Ragnarok Online (or RO) developers from imcGames created Sword of the New World: Granado Espada.
We were able to take part in 2 battles and what we saw pleased us. The transition to the 3D helped the game and gave it a better view on the battlefield. You can move the camera and this way you get a better look at the action. The units are amazing and their animations are clean and good looking. Same goes for spells and effects: you will love what you see.
Last week I began to search some new independent games. Suddenly I stumbled upon this interesting racing game called Nitro Stunt Racing. The title sounds non-original but the content tends to be if not original, at least interesting.
In a perfect world, everything is controlled by a balance between Chaos and Order. But what happens if things start to get messy and a great evil is about to unleash an epic conflict onto the universe? This is what NCsoft decided to unveil and also explain why Aion is a MMO bound to have success.
So here I am back on the road with a BMW. This time in Race 07 demo. The only racing-simulation game that really impressed me at GC. But only with the help of the Steam client which probably will become the "god" of online distribution! Anyway a big minus for this decision of playing the game only through Steam.
