Justice League Heroes - Game Review (PSP)

How many of you haven't dreamed of being a super hero? When seeing movies with Super Man or Batman or any other heroes, I bet you wanted to be like them. Or maybe you prefer being the bad guy. If that's the case, it's not a good day to be a villain. Justice League Heroes or JLH, gives you the opportunity to chase bad guys and masterminds and kick their asses. Snowblind did a wonderful job bringing this DC Comics world into PSP style.

The whole plot is created by Brainiac and his villain crew, who have a master plan to conquer the world and eliminate the Justice League forever. Luckily for mankind, heroes like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Zatanna and others will fight evil so we can live another gaming day.

As the game starts you play as Superman and Batman. You can switch through heroes, so you can choose the one you like most or the one who suits your playing style. Of course everyone wants to be Superman, being strong, looking good in that blue outfit and red panties. (Oh yeah!) Of course if we think it through, we realize that playing with Superman or Batman it doesn't really makes the difference except for the powers. I mean, Superman's powers are Strength, Super punch, Heat Vision and Super Breath. But when comparing his damage with Batman's you'll see no difference. Why? Superman is Superman. If he kicks a robot, the robot should fall down in pieces. But, let's get back to our story.

Each hero has about 5 powers and 4 abilities. Each time you kill a bad guy (contrary to what superheroes do) you receive experience and sometimes powerups, like full heal. But I wouldn't put too much hope in that (getting powerups help, but aren't vital). If you just want to heal, you can step out of combat and after a few seconds life and energy will recharge. Each power you use will consume your energy which normally will be enough for only 2-3 power uses. Your energy can be upgraded as your character evolves. With every level you receive boost (experience) points which you can spend upgrading powers or abilities to a max of rank 4. You can increase your damage at certain powers, the efficiency, the duration or even unlock new powers.
During your mission to save the world you fight in the city with robots, at the subway with drones which infects other people to fight against you, caves filled with wasps, Quadlerk which look like jellyfish, Voppers who sprays some green stuff on you and slows your movement and attack speed for a short duration, White Martians and lots more. At the end of each level you fight a Boss which, if at first may look not that challenging, they will surely put you some problems at higher levels. So don't just expect to punch your way trough, you'll need to use the brain too. Normally, the game will give you two heroes to play with at the beginning of each mission. You can play with any of the two and when controlling one, the other will be controlled by the A.I who does a really good job. If it happens to get killed (what can I say? nobody's perfect) you can resurrect your ally at the save points found in the level, or simply finish the level with the one alive and your ally will be resurrect for the next mission (ain't that's nice?). At some point you will have to choose what heroes do you want to play with in the next missions, so choose well or else you might not make it.

Combat style is kind of the same for all heroes. You have quick attack and strong attack, so you can combine them into combos for more powerful attacks. But when making a combo and the enemy dies or if you miss him, you'll see your hero punching the air quick and hard like his life depended on it. Because the view mode is like the one used in Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance (also made by Snowblind Studios), a rotating-sky camera mode, you don't always get to hit your opponent.

Levels and environment are well build and offer a wide variety of areas. You go from the city to subways, hive, laboratories, military base, missile site even to Mars or flying in the space. The game also contains a mini-map, so in case you get lost you can find your way again. In every level, you will find Shields with which you can buy new costumes with different stats for your heroes and new heroes that will be used only in missions that allow hero selection. Unlockable heroes are Huntress, Aquaman, the Green Arrow and others for you to discover.

Each hero has a submenu with his powers, boosts, bio and log.

Powers menu displays available powers as well the information about each power, the rank of the powers and the available boost points.

In Boosts menu are all the boosts available: Duration, Damage, Range, Efficiency, Speed and Luck. You can combine 3 different Boosts or 3 of the same kind to create a higher quality boost.

The Bio menu displays the current level of the hero, the amount of experience and how much more do you need for the next level, health, energy and some biographic notes about the hero.

Next, in Log menu all the missions completed and uncompleted are showed as well as available shields collected. This is the place for you to unlock heroes or but new suit for your current heroes.

Welcome back, LEGION. Indeed, Joe Kucan is back, portraying the legendary self-proclaimed prophet Kane, through 20 years of Command and Conquer history: past, present and future. And then of course some more, the action takes us a bit more into the future, showing just a sneak peak of the shape of things to come.

Sins of a Solar Empire
The stellar "Sins of a Solar Empire" hits our PCs with a unique interesting new combination of game genres and a few cool ideas that should draw the attention of quite a few strategy fans. The newcomer Ironclad Games managed the impossible and created a competitive title indeed. But aside from all the prays and high marks this game received overall, its approach on RTS and the mix of elements it brings, one can find some things that will bother a few players and that will eventually influence the grades of this review. Ok, let's take it from the top.
Sherlock Holmes versus Arsene Lupin
Sherlock Holmes, the worlds` greatest detective, created by Arthur Conan Doyle is about to face his biggest challenge so far: Arsene Lupin, the worlds` greatest thief, created by Maurice Leblanc. Who is going to win this battle of wits? Who is going to be victorious, and, most importantly, who would you like to see as the winner?
Silent Hunter 4: Pacific U-Boat Missions
I thought a bit about how to start this. While saying that Silent Hunter IV is the best submarine simulator out there is true, it doesn't mean much, especially for new players. Saying it is one of the best simulator games out there is again accurate, but again, a bit of an understatement. Why? Well because... despite the high complexity and realism involved, Ubisoft Romania managed to develop a game that is appealing to the beginners as well, in a certain degree.
Sword of the New World: Granado Espada
Lineage II had it share of success. At the time the game was released, it was one of the most beautiful MMOG on the market. To take its place as the most beautiful MMOG, the Ragnarok Online (or RO) developers from imcGames created Sword of the New World: Granado Espada.
GC: Disciples 3: Renaissance
We were able to take part in 2 battles and what we saw pleased us. The transition to the 3D helped the game and gave it a better view on the battlefield. You can move the camera and this way you get a better look at the action. The units are amazing and their animations are clean and good looking. Same goes for spells and effects: you will love what you see.
Nitro Stunt Racing Stage 1
Last week I began to search some new independent games. Suddenly I stumbled upon this interesting racing game called Nitro Stunt Racing. The title sounds non-original but the content tends to be if not original, at least interesting.

In a perfect world, everything is controlled by a balance between Chaos and Order. But what happens if things start to get messy and a great evil is about to unleash an epic conflict onto the universe? This is what NCsoft decided to unveil and also explain why Aion is a MMO bound to have success.
Race 07
So here I am back on the road with a BMW. This time in Race 07 demo. The only racing-simulation game that really impressed me at GC. But only with the help of the Steam client which probably will become the "god" of online distribution! Anyway a big minus for this decision of playing the game only through Steam.
