Print The screenings programme is the consumer face of the Interactive
Festival, giving gamers a rare opportunity to see the latest titles
before they hit the market, meet the people behind some of the world's
most popular games, find out more about games design and development
and celebrate the creativity, culture and lifestyle of gaming.
The 2008 programme is now open for screening submissions from developers, publishers and game creators, who would like their content showcased as part of this year's event. The event offers 45 to 60 minute screening sessions in dedicated auditoriums seating 200 people. For the first time, the screenings programme will also feature game-related short films, machinima and animations, which will be shown between screenings. Film makers and animators are encouraged to submit their game-related short films to be included in this new strand of the festival.
The last three years of the Edinburgh Interactive Festival have seen exclusive UK consumer premieres of games including BioShock, Crackdown, Age Of Conan, Guitar Hero III - Legends of Rock, Haze, Colin McRae: DIRT and Crysis. These and other exclusive titles have been contributed over the previous years by some of the World's leading developers and publishers, including Microsoft, Eidos, Activision and Ubisoft, to name but a few.
"The screenings are a hugely important and popular part of the whole Interactive Festival," says Chris Deering, Chairman of the EIF. "It's one of the very few opportunities for members of the public in the UK to see some of the most anticipated games before they hit the high street. The number of screenings we have hosted and the audiences attending have grown every year since the festival began. The screenings have showcased some of the biggest games on the market and this year we are able to open this section of the Festival even further."
"We try to offer a very broad range of games and topics," says EIF Screenings Director, Brian Baglow. "Everything from the latest sports, racing and fighting games on console, through to the more complicated PC titles, handheld, mobile, online, casual and indie games. We want to showcase the best new games no matter which platform they appear on - and we want to hear from everyone with exciting new titles."
"The new short film and machinima feature is something we previewed last year and it proved so popular with the audience, this year we want to expand it to offer new content on screen between every session. Again we want to hear from anyone with material they would like to showcase, ideally related to games, or which were created using game technology."
Tickets for the Screenings will be made available to consumers free-of-charge, through branches of GameStation across central Scotland.

| Spider-Man: Web of Shadows November 19, 2008 From the first attempts of creating a videogame revolving around Marvel's super hero, Spider-Man entered a downward spiral, and it seemed like it's only a matter of time before he'll hit rock bottom, so Web of Shadows presents the best chance for redemption. The latest title published by Activision is probably the best video game ever featuring Spider-Man, and while this may not represent a lot, at least we won't witness another all-time low.

| Fallout 3 November 12, 2008 Even with a lot of negative reactions from the old school,
hardcore Fallout fans, even with some aspects that lack the depth we were used
to from the old games, and even with the dramatic change of the combat
mechanics and camera system, Fallout 3 is still Bethesda's crown jewel and one
of the best games this years. I advise everyone, friend or foe to give it a
shot.

| Quantum of Solace November 11, 2008 Such a highly anticipated event as the upcoming release of the latest title in the James Bond saga could not go unnoticed in the gaming industry, as it offers the perfect chance of redeeming a franchise that was slowly sinking after the GoldenEye 007 success. Developed by Treyarch, Quantum of Solace the videogame, was expected to be a huge success with the public and to make some profit, benefiting from this overwhelming favorable context.

| MotorStorm: Pacific Rift October 22, 2008 MotorStorm was one of the few exclusive PS3 games, that had a really big success at the official launch of PS3 in US and Europe. Later sold also as a bonus product for the bundle PS3 packages, MotorStorm succeeded in creating a big fan-base especially after Sony introduced downloadable content in the first version of Playstation Network. MotorStorm: Pacific Rift is the sequel to this successful franchise considered by many as MotorStorm 2. Still developed by Evolution Studios and using a modified version of the first Motorstorm graphical engine, Pacific Rift is scheduled to be released on 28 October 2008 in North America, and later for the rest of the world.

| Motorm4x October 16, 2008 Developed by former guys from Illusion Softworks (known for Mafia), MOTORM4X is a mixture of 1NSANE and Screamer 4x4. Keeping in mind these were off-road racing games, MOTORM4X follows the same idea, featuring non-linear events (similar to GTA concept) and a physics engine that might excel even Baja: Edge of Control.

| PT Boats: Knights of the Sea October 3, 2008 I was among the lucky few who got the chance of playing the demo version of the highly anticipated title from Akella: "PT Boats: Knights of the Sea", and I must say this naval combat simulator has all the assets needed to become the next big thing in the genre industry. The dazzling graphics, complex yet accessible gameplay, real life inspired scenarios and the unique flavor of a maritime confrontation all in the background of the ever intriguing World War 2 concur in creating a game of huge potential.
