Rise of Nations:Rise of Legends - Game Review (PC)

Rise of Nations Rise of Legends
Leonardo da Vinci was a great man. Except from his wonderful ideas he also was an artist and a philosopher. Studied with some of the great people from Italy that lived at that time and learned from each one. I would like to say the same thing about Big Huge Games, the developers of Rise of Legends, but I can't. From my perspective, they took Rise of Nations ideas and other small ideas from other games and implemented into Legends. While Leonardo's schematics where very interesting and showed a lot of foreseeing at that time, even if they have a few flaws that made the inventions not working, Rise of Legends is trying to take the fame of Rise of Nations further but they stumble over a few things that are easy compared to what they achieved overall.

Joint Task Force
Joint Task Force is a story of modern war where players match superior tactics and military technology against dangerous unconventional forces around the globe. The game's exacting attention to detail – from buildings that dynamically collapse to military vehicles modeled down to the last rivet – will create a new benchmark for modern-day RTS games.

Prey - Game Review (PC)

Prey
After years and years of developing, going through a lot of major changes regarding graphics and physics engine, 3D Realms decided to choose Human Head Studios for developing their game. As a result Prey was developed on a heavily modified version of Doom 3 engine. Known to be the best engine for indoor areas, it fits perfectly for the level design of Prey. What the people from id Software could not exploit from their engine, is to be found in Prey. The sequence of separated rooms by doors and by loading times, almost disappears in Prey. The repeating rooms and corridors are not to be found in Prey, which by all its means can be considered a masterpiece in level designing.

Call of Juarez
Call of Juarez features classic gunslinging action including duels, shootouts and barroom brawls. Players will relive the days of the Wild West in numerous settings including local saloons and brothels. In the single-player campaign, players enter the world of two opposing characters equipped with contrasting weapons and styles. Ray is the retired gunslinger turned rough-and-tumble preacher. Billy, a sneaky and elusive man befriended and trained by Native Americans, is on the run. Authentic Western situations chronicle the cat-and-mouse game played by Ray and Billy. Players are forced to make split-second decisions to escape the grasp of Ray or get their hands on Billy, and outwit secondary characters throughout this Western setting.

F.E.A.R. - Game Review (PC)

F E A R
Monolith, the creators of "No One Lives Forever 1, 2", "Tron 2.0", "Aliens vs. Predator", "Blood" and "Blood II: The Chosen", etc, launched a new FPS with a dark and horror touch named "FEAR". Published by Sierra, after a huge advertising period, the game had every right to become one of the best shooters in 2005. For some game websites, the game really became "the single player shooter of 2005". However, FEAR is actually an example of a mainstream product, a perfect product for the industry of gaming nowadays. Theoretically, it includes the sum of all ingredients to become a perfect game, but like other new creations, F.E.A.R. doesn't succeed to create a new niche because every ingredient is used in a very cheap manner.

CivCity Review - Game Review (PC)

CivCity Review
Caesar was a series very dear to my heart. I played that game over and over again, trying different styles of play. But city simulations in games didn't got limited only to Caesar. Pharaoh, Sim City and Children of the Nile are other city simulations that I played. When I heard that Firefly, the creators of Civilization series, will develop a city simulation, I considered that the gamers will have another good game to play. When you have high hopes, you end up bad. CivCity is a shame. It's a game created for the casual gamer, with no real interest to be a true simulation game.

El Matador - Game Review (PC)

El Matador
Who is El Matador?I had to read the official site to understand what's all about this Matador. The reason why I couldn't find anything is that the story is just an excuse for the whole killing action. The developers (Plastic Reality) decided to quit the idea of a game based on a solid story like Max Payne, and to develop further the action factor. After every mission you just take your new orders and continue to kill drug lords for a better world. You are a DEA agent called Victor Corbet. You are the only hope for the DEA South American branch to neutralize the most powerful drug mafia called La Valedora. These guys killed all the DEA agents from the headquarters and now is time for revenge. You're under the command of Carlos Enterador and Mia Rodriguez who are far from being your friends. You get the message. You are the weapon against the drug mafia and only you can destroy them. With the help of a huge arsenal of weapons, from Luger to UZI and from Kalashnikov to Minigun, you will explore all the mafia's territory with one goal: TO KILL EVERYONE, except the other DEA agents which will assist you in your fight.

The Bad, the Ugly and the Sober

Litera and Akella bring us back, if only for a little while, to the old days when Adventures and Quest games were the king with their latest Wild Wild West game: The Bad, the Ugly and the Sober. And it's nice to be back! I remember in the old days when I used to spend hours on Lucas Arts games like Day of the Tentacle or Indiana Jones. The Bad, the Ugly and the Sober manages to recreate some of the thrill and excitement of the old school Adventures.  [...]
