Sam and Max Episode 205: What's New Beelzebub? - Game Review (PC)

We have come to an end, after two seasons and eleven episodes. Our beloved heroes, Sam and Max will not retire, but they will take a vacation somewhere in their neighborhood (maybe in their office!). If Telltale Games will continue the series we don't know, but we definitely want that, as Sam and Max did a good job bringing us a good quality humor and long hours of funny gameplay. So what better way to end the series with an episode that offers double the gameplay length, and a chance to meet all the main characters in the series? Yes, you heard me! All the characters are present here more or less. I mean some of them will have just a short appearance but enough to remember them.

The whole second season was thought to be more bound together, every episode leaving traces that could be found later on. So the last one begins with Sam and Max searching for Bosco's soul in Hell, after T.H.E.M. incident. With no further introductions you step along Sam and Max in this new adventure, of redemption. Why redemption? Because in every tale, in the end, the main character saves his beloved, friend, or the whole World from extinction. And Sam and Max will do the same thing, but not until they will pay for their victims of misunderstandings, now deeply imprisoned in the bowels of Hell.

Hell is depicted more like a modern company with its hierarchic steps, where the last minute of work never ends. And where Hugh Bliss and Brady Culture are just simple employees who have to fulfill Satan's wishes. Even Satan is damned in his own territory. That's because he is not the chief anymore. He has his own management team whom he has to obey. This sounds more and more like modern days.

I had the feeling that the puzzles system became softer again (in terms of difficulty), but in a good way making the plot more funnier to watch. For the new ones that want to try this series and never played before any of the episodes, this is a good one to start with. You get acquainted with all the main characters and their stories, and get clarified from the beginning with some aspects of the series. From this point replaying the older episodes gets even more demanding for a newbie.

One of the new locations where you will spend some time is the new wing dedicated to Sam and Max contribution for Hell. Here you will find all their accidental or non-accidental victims which are tormented in their own versions of Hell.

Every character is closed in a diorama haunted forever by his own fears. Like Bosco for example who is bared naked on a stage and everyone is watching him for eternity. In order to restore order in Hell, they have to lower Hell's management efficiency by freeing the souls from the dioramas, and get Beelzebub back as the ruler of Hell. Again a new minigame is available from the C.O.P.S. shop. But it's more difficult to get to it. First of all you have to solve the puzzle with Little Timmy in order to get him and Jimmy Two Teeth away from the shop. Only then the C.O.P.S. will let you enter in the virtual reality to complete the minigame.

The game consists in shooting all the rats to send them back to Hell. And that's possible because the DeSoto is possessed and can drive alone! But this time you don't have to complete the minigame in order to end the game. It's just there to bring additional fun and eventually bonus stickers.

"What's new Beelzebub?" ends the series of Sam and Max in a big way. Like in a real TV show, Telltale brings back in the scene every character to celebrate together Sybil's wedding and to answer some of the questions that appeared in former episodes.

Double the content and double the size as Telltale ends the series with the longest episode offering us a complete Sam and Max experience.

Welcome back, LEGION. Indeed, Joe Kucan is back, portraying the legendary self-proclaimed prophet Kane, through 20 years of Command and Conquer history: past, present and future. The 13 missions spread story explains what happened to the Brotherhood of Nod right after the Second Tiberium War, and fill the history gap left by the original Command and Conquer 3. And then of course some more, the action takes us a bit more into the future, showing just a sneak peak of the shape of things to come.

Sins of a Solar Empire
The stellar "Sins of a Solar Empire" hits our PCs with a unique interesting new combination of game genres and a few cool ideas that should draw the attention of quite a few strategy fans. The newcomer Ironclad Games managed the impossible and created a competitive title indeed. But aside from all the prays and high marks this game received overall, its approach on RTS and the mix of elements it brings, one can find some things that will bother a few players and that will eventually influence the grades of this review. Ok, let's take it from the top.
Sherlock Holmes versus Arsene Lupin
Sherlock Holmes, the worlds` greatest detective, created by Arthur Conan Doyle is about to face his biggest challenge so far: Arsene Lupin, the worlds` greatest thief, created by Maurice Leblanc. Who is going to win this battle of wits? Who is going to be victorious, and, most importantly, who would you like to see as the winner?
Silent Hunter 4: Pacific U-Boat Missions
I thought a bit about how to start this. While saying that Silent Hunter IV is the best submarine simulator out there is true, it doesn't mean much, especially for new players. Saying it is one of the best simulator games out there is again accurate, but again, a bit of an understatement. Why? Well because... despite the high complexity and realism involved, Ubisoft Romania managed to develop a game that is appealing to the beginners as well, in a certain degree.
Sword of the New World: Granado Espada
Lineage II had it share of success. At the time the game was released, it was one of the most beautiful MMOG on the market. To take its place as the most beautiful MMOG, the Ragnarok Online (or RO) developers from imcGames created Sword of the New World: Granado Espada.
GC: Disciples 3: Renaissance
We were able to take part in 2 battles and what we saw pleased us. The transition to the 3D helped the game and gave it a better view on the battlefield. You can move the camera and this way you get a better look at the action. The units are amazing and their animations are clean and good looking. Same goes for spells and effects: you will love what you see.
Nitro Stunt Racing Stage 1
Last week I began to search some new independent games. Suddenly I stumbled upon this interesting racing game called Nitro Stunt Racing. The title sounds non-original but the content tends to be if not original, at least interesting.
GC: Aion Tower of Eternity
In a perfect world, everything is controlled by a balance between Chaos and Order. But what happens if things start to get messy and a great evil is about to unleash an epic conflict onto the universe? This is what NCsoft decided to unveil and also explain why Aion is a MMO bound to have success.
Race 07
So here I am back on the road with a BMW. This time in Race 07 demo. The only racing-simulation game that really impressed me at GC. But only with the help of the Steam client which probably will become the "god" of online distribution! Anyway a big minus for this decision of playing the game only through Steam.
