Supreme Commander Expansion Pack: Forged Alliance Is Gold - News

Print THQ Inc. announced Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, developed by critically acclaimed Real-Time Strategy (RTS) designer Chris Taylor and Gas Powered Games, has reached the gold master stage of development and is now entering manufacturing. The standalone expansion in the revolutionary Supreme Commander series continues to push the boundaries of scope and scale in the RTS genre, offering a mysterious new alien faction, the Seraphim, an all-new single-player campaign and more than 100 new units to master on the path to galactic domination. Developed for Windows PC, Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance is expected to ship to retail outlets nationwide on November 6. "Supreme Commander delivered scope and scale on a level never before seen in the RTS genre, allowing gamers to live out their dreams of commanding massive armies on a global scale," said Kevin Kraff, director of global brand management, THQ. "Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance will continue to push those boundaries and deliver more of what fans want."
"Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance tells the story of the UEF, Cybran and Aeon's desperate alliance as they fight for survival against the Seraphim, a long forgotten alien race that has returned to destroy all of humanity," said Chris Taylor, CEO, Gas Powered Games. "Adding a new faction, and giving the existing factions some crazy powerful new units opens up a wide range of innovative strategic possibilities, taking the single and multiplayer game to a place never seen before in an RTS".
Developed by Chris Taylor and Gas Powered Games, Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance is the next chapter in the critically acclaimed Supreme Commander franchise that set the standard for scope and scale in the RTS genre. The game continues the series' epic story in an all-new single-player campaign following the Infinite War. In addition, Forged Alliance introduces the mysterious Seraphim faction and includes a myriad of innovative multiplayer features. More than 100 new units will give players access to cutting-edge strategic options, including fully realized navies, orbital weaponry and advanced counter intelligence technologies.

Sins of a Solar Empire
The stellar "Sins of a Solar Empire" hits our PCs with a unique interesting new combination of game genres and a few cool ideas that should draw the attention of quite a few strategy fans. The newcomer Ironclad Games managed the impossible and created a competitive title indeed. But aside from all the prays and high marks this game received overall, its approach on RTS and the mix of elements it brings, one can find some things that will bother a few players and that will eventually influence the grades of this review. Ok, let's take it from the top.

I thought a bit about how to start this. While saying that Silent Hunter IV is the best submarine simulator out there is true, it doesn't mean much, especially for new players. Saying it is one of the best simulator games out there is again accurate, but again, a bit of an understatement. Why? Well because... despite the high complexity and realism involved, Ubisoft Romania managed to develop a game that is appealing to the beginners as well, in a certain degree.

GC: Disciples 3: Renaissance
We were able to take part in 2 battles and what we saw pleased us. The transition to the 3D helped the game and gave it a better view on the battlefield. You can move the camera and this way you get a better look at the action. The units are amazing and their animations are clean and good looking. Same goes for spells and effects: you will love what you see.

Race 07
So here I am back on the road with a BMW. This time in Race 07 demo. The only racing-simulation game that really impressed me at GC. But only with the help of the Steam client which probably will become the "god" of online distribution! Anyway a big minus for this decision of playing the game only through Steam.

| Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance January 22, 2008 Enhanced over the original concept. Maps are even larger, more units than ever in a RTS, large scales battle like never before, and even worse performance to bring your PC down to its knees. Only a few players will really enjoy Forged Alliance and have a great time while playing. The story is also rather weak and I am really sorry to say this because I remember I wanted to play more and more original Supreme Commander for the singleplayer story. [...] |
