Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 - Game Review (PS3)

Print In this year edition, some new features were introduced in an attempt to increase the level of realism while other features were substantially improved from where they were left of last year in PGA Tour '06.
Probably the biggest improvement is in the way you aim prior to a stroke. The classical pinpointing of the spot where the ball is supposed to land after a stroke, has been replaced with a far more realistic shot mechanic, called "True Aiming ". This new system has at basis a possible land area in shape of a circle. After the ball was hit, factors like wind, available stroke power , elevation, type of the shot, top or back spin dictate where your ball situates in this circle after ending its flight. It's not impossible to still have those picture perfect strokes from passed Tiger Woods installments, but it is certainly a whole lot harder this time around. The current skill of your player will affect this possible land area, it will gradually become smaller when advancing to a higher skill level.

The skill improvements can be done by: taking part at various "Training Challenges" (which purpose is to fine-tune every aspect of your game), playing the "Tiger Challenge" and the "PGA Tour Season" modes, or by constantly being up to date with the latest equipment found at "Pro Shop". At the beginning, most of the 3000 and some items found there are locked and quite expensive (if you want serious stuff), so in order to unlock and have some bucks for them, you must enter a tournament and win some matches. To ease your search for the desired items at "Pro Shop", a search function was introduced .
The concept of luck from the "my skills" menu is somehow irrelevant in the virtual world, so buying a t-shirt to increase my luck skill level is a bit to exaggerate. Anyway check from time to time the stats from the "My skills screen", to see where you need to improve.
Another improvement that increases the level of realism even more is the personalization of your player. You literally have the opportunity to build a virtual you using basic face elements like (skin type, eye color and shape, head conformation, eyebrow shape, hairstyles, facial hair, nose shape, mouth shape, chin shape, body structure ), and additional ones like (freckles, bags under eyes, age spots, crow feet, scars, moles). It's so advanced that a standalone software for specific purposes is not so far fetched.
To personalize the player's gestures; certain swing movements and positive/negative animations are up for grab after you unlock and have sufficient fonds for them.

Some new game modes have been added at this year's Tiger Woods PGA Tour release, modes like: One-Ball, Bloodsome, Greensome , Battle Golf.
In "Battle Golf" the goal is to win the most holes. The funny part in this mode is the allowance to remove a club from your opponent's bag after each hole you win.
Bloodsome and greensome matches are both team-based events. After you and your teammate hit your shots in greensome, you get to pick your team best drive and then alternate shots from that point on for the rest of each hole; while in bloodsome your opponent chooses the tee shot your team has to play from.
One-ball is a game where you and your opponents alternate shots using the same ball until someone puts the ball in the cup. The strategy is to set up your opponents with difficult shots in order to maximize your chances in making the final putt. On every shot , a player must hit the ball in the "circle of trust" in order to preserve his spot in the rotation. If the player hits the ball outside this circle, the shot is labeled as "betrayal" and the player loses one turn in the rotation. Any poorer shots like (water hazards, out of bounds) results in "Double Betrayal", which causes the player to lose two consecutive turns.
Besides these new playing modes, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 carries along from past installments mini game modes such as: Twenty One, Seven, Target, Target-to-Target, Capture the Flag, T-I-G-E-R, Putting Contest, Approach Contest, Closest to the Pin Contest, Long Drive Contest. The number of Traditional games is impressive as well, modes like: Stroke Play, Match Play, Skins, StableFord, Alternate Shot, Best Ball, Four ball will surely diversify your play and make you a better player. If this isn't your objective, you might as well play it just for fun with some of your chumps , since some of the modes are 'A.I. unfriendly' and require human input.
Some features and content from past editions were reintroduced in the game. The "PGA Tour Season" brings a new ESPN point system and updated rooster of golfers (53 at number), 21 of which are real and 32 are fictional whilst "Tiger Challenge" mode replaces the "Team Tour" mode featured on other consoles. The challenge here is getting to play against the man himself , Tiger Woods, in a "meeting the boss at the end" contest.
A total of 21 courses are offered in comparison with the pc version which features only 12 locations. From those 21 courses, 16 are real and 5 are fantasy, however, some of them are locked at the beginning of the game , while other fantasy courses are returning courses from previous games. If you are anxious in getting your clubs swinging without any restrictions and impediments, the "Play Now" mode does just that, allowing you to setup rules and courses the way you like.
It's a bit disappointing that you can't build up a course from scratch. The only way to come up with something of your own is to use holes from various locations and produce a 18-hole event. So work incomplete at this chapter.
"ESPN On Demand" will be your connection with the ESPN Sports Ticker for all the latest sports scores and news. Additional radio podcasts ( updated at an interval of 20 minutes) are also featured.
One useful feature the PS 3 version of the game comes with is the Motion Sensor Spin Control. This new in-flight ball control method makes use of SIXAXIS's gyroscopic sensor to add spin. Rather than having to press L1 or X to apply spin to the ball after a shot, you can hold X and tilt the controller to add the desired spin. By default this feature is turned off.

Although it does not include all the patch notes, I thought I'd add this now so you get the general idea of what will change in the next major World of Warcraft Patch 2.4.0.

Welcome back, LEGION. Indeed, Joe Kucan is back, portraying the legendary self-proclaimed prophet Kane, through 20 years of Command and Conquer history: past, present and future. The 13 missions spread story explains what happened to the Brotherhood of Nod right after the Second Tiberium War, and fill the history gap left by the original Command and Conquer 3. And then of course some more, the action takes us a bit more into the future, showing just a sneak peak of the shape of things to come.

The stellar "Sins of a Solar Empire" hits our PCs with a unique interesting new combination of game genres and a few cool ideas that should draw the attention of quite a few strategy fans. The newcomer Ironclad Games managed the impossible and created a competitive title indeed. But aside from all the prays and high marks this game received overall, its approach on RTS and the mix of elements it brings, one can find some things that will bother a few players and that will eventually influence the grades of this review. Ok, let's take it from the top.
Sherlock Holmes, the worlds` greatest detective, created by Arthur Conan Doyle is about to face his biggest challenge so far: Arsene Lupin, the worlds` greatest thief, created by Maurice Leblanc. Who is going to win this battle of wits? Who is going to be victorious, and, most importantly, who would you like to see as the winner?
I thought a bit about how to start this. While saying that Silent Hunter IV is the best submarine simulator out there is true, it doesn't mean much, especially for new players. Saying it is one of the best simulator games out there is again accurate, but again, a bit of an understatement. Why? Well because... despite the high complexity and realism involved, Ubisoft Romania managed to develop a game that is appealing to the beginners as well, in a certain degree.
Lineage II had it share of success. At the time the game was released, it was one of the most beautiful MMOG on the market. To take its place as the most beautiful MMOG, the Ragnarok Online (or RO) developers from imcGames created Sword of the New World: Granado Espada.
We were able to take part in 2 battles and what we saw pleased us. The transition to the 3D helped the game and gave it a better view on the battlefield. You can move the camera and this way you get a better look at the action. The units are amazing and their animations are clean and good looking. Same goes for spells and effects: you will love what you see.
Last week I began to search some new independent games. Suddenly I stumbled upon this interesting racing game called Nitro Stunt Racing. The title sounds non-original but the content tends to be if not original, at least interesting.
In a perfect world, everything is controlled by a balance between Chaos and Order. But what happens if things start to get messy and a great evil is about to unleash an epic conflict onto the universe? This is what NCsoft decided to unveil and also explain why Aion is a MMO bound to have success.
So here I am back on the road with a BMW. This time in Race 07 demo. The only racing-simulation game that really impressed me at GC. But only with the help of the Steam client which probably will become the "god" of online distribution! Anyway a big minus for this decision of playing the game only through Steam.
