World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade - Game Review (PC)

The Blood Elfs

The mana avid Blood Elfs are all that remained after the Scourge led by the evil death knight Arthas destroyed the mystical Sunwell, thereby severing the elves from the source of their arcane power. They seek out new sources of arcane magic and the means of defending their land against the undying horrors of the Scourge. For more information about the Blood Elfs, go here.

The females are a bit skinny, and the males a bit... feminine... and there is a certain Final Fantasy look to them. But they look really good and the animation of the new races (yes, Draenei too) are really very good. As always females don't dance that great - but they wear red underwear and have red polished nails. Males dance like Napoleon Dynamite - if you saw the movie, which I can't describe as “good” or “bad”, or anything similar. Have a look! That being said, I couldn't help notice the brooms that clean the places around Blood Elf towns themselves - really cool.

Racial Traits

  • Arcane Affinity - passive - Enchanting skill increased by 10.

  • Arcane Torrent - active - (Hunters/Paladins/Mages/Priests/Warlocks only) - Silences all enemies within 8 yards for 2 sec. In addition, you gain 5 + 1/Level Mana restored per Mana Tap charge currently affecting you - Instant - 2 min cooldown.

  • Arcane Torrent - active - (Rogue only) - Silences all enemies within 8 yards for 2 sec. In addition, you gain 10 Energy for each Mana Tap charge currently affecting you.

  • Magic Resistance - passive - All resistances increased by 5.

  • Mana Tap - active - Reduces target's mana by 51 and charges you with Arcane energy for 10 min. This effect stacks up to 3 times. Amount of mana reduced is 50 + 1/Level - 30 yd range - Instant - 30 sec cooldown.

Other Information

  • Start Location: Eversong Forest

  • Home City: Silvermoon City

  • Racial Mount: Hawkstrider

  • Available Classes: Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Warlock

Excellent casters, great mages, with the ability to drain mana ands silence opponents (silence prevents them to cast spells). Magic Resistance – what more can you say? Affects all schools of magic. And 10 to enchanting is great, enchanting is such an expensive profession but a profitable one as too. Overall one of the best race in the game.

The Chokobo *cough* ... excuse me... the Hawkstrider is the Blood Elf racial mount. It looks like a big colored bird.

In A Blink Of An Eye

Although it feels like ages ago, on February 2nd World of Warcraft celebrated two years of existence. What can I say... the time passes so quickly. So many changes happened since its launch. The game has grown so much. Aaaah but enough nostalgia! Let me talk about the things that matter.

Questing and quests in the Outland - the new continent from Burning Crusade - has evolved quite a bit. You don't get send to “kill 30 wolfs” anymore. Quests now involve killing “30 sand worms” or “25 buzzards”. Seriously now, the quests seem a bit more natural, usually better than the original game, making it easier for players to understand and complete the objectives. I could find a couple of bugged quests while leveling to 70, but they were eventually fixed - nothing big or crucial, considering that you have hundreds to choose from.

As you can see, a knowledge base section has been added into the game, with hot topics and possible solutions, so you don't have to contact a Game Master everytime something is wrong, and wait in line till you get a resolution for your problem / an answer.

Some quests are really exceptional, making you laugh or getting you more into the game. Blizzard also introduced tour quests which explain your way around big areas like Shattrath city (the main Outland city) or Caverns of Time. You get that warm feeling as well when they escort you and every guard in town salutes you, and all the others players look your way.

This particular zone in the game is inspired by Starship Troopers. You have to be a labrat and test a piece of gnomish technology, but you have to sign a “Discharge of Liability” contract first.

Welcome back, LEGION. Indeed, Joe Kucan is back, portraying the legendary self-proclaimed prophet Kane, through 20 years of Command and Conquer history: past, present and future. The 13 missions spread story explains what happened to the Brotherhood of Nod right after the Second Tiberium War, and fill the history gap left by the original Command and Conquer 3. And then of course some more, the action takes us a bit more into the future, showing just a sneak peak of the shape of things to come.

Sins of a Solar Empire
The stellar "Sins of a Solar Empire" hits our PCs with a unique interesting new combination of game genres and a few cool ideas that should draw the attention of quite a few strategy fans. The newcomer Ironclad Games managed the impossible and created a competitive title indeed. But aside from all the prays and high marks this game received overall, its approach on RTS and the mix of elements it brings, one can find some things that will bother a few players and that will eventually influence the grades of this review. Ok, let's take it from the top.
Sherlock Holmes versus Arsene Lupin
Sherlock Holmes, the worlds` greatest detective, created by Arthur Conan Doyle is about to face his biggest challenge so far: Arsene Lupin, the worlds` greatest thief, created by Maurice Leblanc. Who is going to win this battle of wits? Who is going to be victorious, and, most importantly, who would you like to see as the winner?
Silent Hunter 4: Pacific U-Boat Missions
I thought a bit about how to start this. While saying that Silent Hunter IV is the best submarine simulator out there is true, it doesn't mean much, especially for new players. Saying it is one of the best simulator games out there is again accurate, but again, a bit of an understatement. Why? Well because... despite the high complexity and realism involved, Ubisoft Romania managed to develop a game that is appealing to the beginners as well, in a certain degree.
Sword of the New World: Granado Espada
Lineage II had it share of success. At the time the game was released, it was one of the most beautiful MMOG on the market. To take its place as the most beautiful MMOG, the Ragnarok Online (or RO) developers from imcGames created Sword of the New World: Granado Espada.
GC: Disciples 3: Renaissance
We were able to take part in 2 battles and what we saw pleased us. The transition to the 3D helped the game and gave it a better view on the battlefield. You can move the camera and this way you get a better look at the action. The units are amazing and their animations are clean and good looking. Same goes for spells and effects: you will love what you see.
Nitro Stunt Racing Stage 1
Last week I began to search some new independent games. Suddenly I stumbled upon this interesting racing game called Nitro Stunt Racing. The title sounds non-original but the content tends to be if not original, at least interesting.
GC: Aion Tower of Eternity
In a perfect world, everything is controlled by a balance between Chaos and Order. But what happens if things start to get messy and a great evil is about to unleash an epic conflict onto the universe? This is what NCsoft decided to unveil and also explain why Aion is a MMO bound to have success.
Race 07
So here I am back on the road with a BMW. This time in Race 07 demo. The only racing-simulation game that really impressed me at GC. But only with the help of the Steam client which probably will become the "god" of online distribution! Anyway a big minus for this decision of playing the game only through Steam.
