Far Cry 2 is an upcoming first person shooter published by Ubisoft and is the sequel to Far Cry, a game produced by developer Crytek. Crytek will not be involved in this game's development because it has sold all of its rights to the Far Cry series to Ubisoft, although Far Cry 2 may use the CryENGINE as Ubisoft has a perpetual license to use the engine. The Far Cry series are unrelated to Crysis which is being developed by Crytek, and will be published by EA Games.

As opposed to its predecessor, the game is entirely open ended and non-linear. Various factions and vehicles will feature, and the gameplay area is around 50 square km. Enemies will include human mercenaries and native animals, but sci-fi creatures such as Trigens from Far Cry will not feature. A dynamic weather system has been added that varies the weather based on the players ability - if the player is doing exceptionally well the skies will be clear and sunny, but if problems arise the skies will darken and storm.
