rFactor, the critically acclaimed race simulator, will soon be available on DVD-ROM. Designed so that the community can continuously develop and refine it, rFactor is a serious simulation that is both challenging and fun to play.

Developers Image Space Incorporated, well known as the creator of EA's Formula 1 and NASCAR Thunder series, but also for a lesser known but highly innovative simulation called Sports Car GT have incorporated their many years of commercial and military simulation experience into creating rFactor. The main focus of development was to realise the full potential of the driving experience. Developer Terence Groenin says "We wanted to improve the sense of speed, and have the user feel the bumps in the road and the air rushing by. We accomplished this by developing several areas, from audio to camera work to the physics themselves."

The new boxed version of rFactor includes an updated 15 degrees of freedom physics engine, advanced tire modelling, complex aerodynamics, cockpit vibrations, detailed bump modelling and a track-specific terrain data file system. An advanced graphics engine, updated sound engine with changing engine sounds based on upgraded vehicle performance, projected headlights for night driving, and real-time day/night transitions are also features of the latest version.

The time-of-day feature completes the realism of rFactor. Developer Joe Campana says "the time-of-day feature means that you can setup your race session to start at any time of day or night, and time marches forward from that point, in real-time or at an accelerated rate if you want to speed through the day-night and night-day transitions. As time progresses, you'll see accurate changes in lighting, shadows, and skies. Circuit builders will even be able to include latitude/longitude and date information into the track description for complete real-world accuracy."

The rFactor series features mixed class road racing with ultra realistic dynamics, an immersive sound environment and stunning graphics.
