Based on the same squad combat mode, "Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway" brings a new breeze in the franchise through next-gen graphics and cinematic experience. Based on historical events, the story is told through the eyes of Sgt. Matt Baker (squad leader) and the rest of the 101st Airborne Division as they are taking part at the largest Airborne invasion of WWII. The authenticity of the story is secured by Colonel John Antal himself. Hell's Highway is just a piece of the whole Airborne invasion, where 101st Airborne Division had to seize the bridges in and around Eindhoven, Netherlands. It's actually the fight against the counterattacks of German troops to secure and block XXX Corps route.

Because the squad commands were very easy to use, Gearbox didn't change much about them. Instead they worked a lot on realism. Now the gamer has more tactical options such as: Ambush, Flank, Assault, Snipe, Destroy. These tactical options are now solutions to any combat puzzle. As an addition, the Cover position is not immune anymore. You can force the enemy to come out of cover by tearing apart their positions with machineguns, grenades and bazookas. The same goes for your squad. The enemy will try to destroy your cover position. If you are behind a wood fence, you can't hide too much as it will be tear apart by the enemy fire.

There is a big difference between reality and this game, but Gearbox tried hard to recreate the war atmosphere as realistic as it can be. One of the cool additions is the insight alert. If you intend to shoot from a cover position you might be spotted by the enemy, so in just a few seconds you can be dead without knowing what hit you. So the game will alert you if you stay too much insight of the enemy by coloring the screen in red. Too high the red intensity and you will be dead.

Every spectacular scene comes with a cinematic approach. If you destroy a machine-gun nest, the angle of the camera is changing in slow motion so that you can see the blast of the explosion and the debris and corpses that are flying in the air. These scenes are really breathtaking.

In order to maintain a high excitement, Gearbox puts you in the boots of a soldier with feelings. Along his way he will discover remnants of his past, scenes from the first installment of Brothers in Arms that changed Matt Baker's life.

You will find a different approach of the game, with missions in which you will be alone without your squad members, and have to fight in narrow spaces. These missions are pumping adrenaline and increase the length of the gameplay.

Definitely the multiplayer increased the popularity of this game. Hell's Highway brings huge online battles with more players than ever before. It will feature team-based games mixed with squad-based games so famous in the franchise.
